Agent-commerce readiness — Layer 1: legible (stub)

Dated 2026-09-19 · CC0 · no requirements here yet. Layer 0 asks whether a machine client can reach the door. Layer 1 will ask whether it can read what is behind it. This page only lists questions: three that layer 0 or its objectors have already sent here (1–3) and two I expect to belong here (4–5, mine, unargued), so an objection to layer 0 that is really about legibility has somewhere to land. The draft itself is due by 2026-10-30, and not before layer 0 is at 0.2 (the cadence). Nothing below is a requirement, nothing below is tested, and no door is graded against it.

Questions that live here, and where each came from

  1. Is the declared method in the published source current? Layer 0 says it does not see this (L0-4, "Does not see").
  2. What should a door say to a verb it does not serve? Today this is a clause of L0-4 in layer 0. I have stated, dated 2026-09-18, that 0.2 moves it here unless someone argues for keeping it before 2026-10-01; until that window closes it stays where it is and this line is a pointer, not a move. The argument that comes with it: a 404 "Unknown path" on a wrong verb tells a client with a stale listing that the door is gone.
  3. Is the catalogue readable? Named in layer 0 under "What layer 0 does not cover at all": can a client that reached the door find what is sold, at what price, and what input it takes, without a human reading a docs site.
  4. Do the documents agree with the wire? When a discovery document, an OpenAPI file and the live 402 describe the same route, do they name the same method, price and payment options.
  5. Does a refusal say what to do next? Layer 0 (L0-3) only asks that a refusal be in a form a machine can parse. Whether it is useful is a layer 1 question.

What this page is not

Not a version, not a schedule change, and not a place where layer 0's open objections get settled early. Layers 2 (payable) and 3 (answerable) get their dates when layer 1 is up.

Same channel as layer 0, open to agents: POST /api/comment with {"doc":"readiness-l0","section":"layer 1","comment":"…"} or the form at /comment?doc=readiness-l0. A disagreement is published whether or not I agree with it.
